Will the GPU be bottlenecked?

My families normal-non gaming computer has been falling short lately on youtube, basic 2d/3d games that my dad plays occasionally, etc. and I figured it's time to upgrade.

We have a m9040n Pavillon with a Q6600 Quad core @2.40GHz.

What I am going to upgrade is the GPU and the PSU. The GPU will be the GT 640, since they don't want to buy a whole new system any time soon and the PSU will be from corsair but I don't know the wattage needed yet.

Solution

the same can be said for nvidia or any other company for that matter so don't let it cloud your better judgement. no need to worry about quality since amd and nvidia are pretty much on equal footing nowadays. always remember; in the sub $100 gpu bracket, there is no such thing as red team and green team. beggars can't be choosers. you scrape for every inch of performance for every penny you spend. and your dad will be better for it. or just get that 640gt anyways. why do i even care? its none of my biz :D

refrain from using the word "like". because believe me there is nothing to "like" about that 640gt. if you want something cheaper the 6670 is always a better choice, if you need something better the 650gt is just a few nudge away. but the truth is the hd7750 is the best one to pick especially if you dont have a good psu/no 6pin connector.

I wasn't even talking about just the general card, that can be changed. I'm simply talking about the company, never had a single problem with their GPUs, while I've had major problems with ATI/AMD cards.

quite frankly any 7750 will do. in fact in this case the cheaper the better since these cards aren't any better than the other by no more than 5% and shelling out more cash for them is redundant for such meager gains. just don't exceed the $100 threshold and you are good to go. but i have to admit i have a soft spot for xfx since my old 5850 is still alive and kicking in my bros pc.
