Hey. I'm building a new gaming rig/ movie watching pc.

I've some preferred parts I would like such as

I7 4770k or a i5 4670k if I really need to downgrade due to the budget

A gtx 770 so I can run crisis 3 on max in 1920 x 1080 :)

Also a very nice monitor to show off the nice display such as ASUS VG248QE (144hz!!!! 1ms refresh !!!)

I've a idea of the rest of the parts. But can you guys help me build the most sensible one for around 1200$? I live in the US and are willing to go over a little bit if that's necessary. But I am on a budget.

Thank you for helping

Oh and also on a side note I would like a really cool looking case such as the NZXT Guardian 921 RB. Would u guys suggest something like this? I would like something that makes my pc look "cool" to my friends that won't know wats the latest gtx :)

Yea. I just need some help in picking the rest of the parts such as a ssd, hdd , mobo , cooler for oc, ram, psu, optimal drive and etc :)

Also a case if the one I said isn't good enough.

I would love the 4770k if it fits in the budget :/ but I doubt it will?

The 4770k would be overkill for your purposes, thus not worth the money. Are you opposed to water cooling?

Yea that's what most people say :)

I'm just leaving it as a option if it comes under the budget. Which probably won't happen I'm guessing

Also, I'm not opposed to anything really. But I heard good things about the evo 212 I believe. Which is only like 30$?? People say its enough for most oc

Do you need an OS, mouse, etc. ? Because its going to be tough to have this thing under budget with that monitor

EDIT: Do you require bluray?

Yea hehe. I'm trying to squeeze a lot of good stuff outta this budget

I guess I can cover the mouse and etc. But I do need os, though I'll try to find some discounts if possible

And again bro it's ok to go over a little bit if needed to. Thank you for helping

Also, do u think that monitor is worth it? I mean, I would want a great display if I'm spending over 400 on a gpu

Oh and no blue ray is fine :) like a basic drive that runs DVD/cd is fine

Do you have a preference between Windows 7 or 8?

I personally feel that as long as you have a good full HD 60Hz+ monitor you're good. But with the 770 I would like to have a better display in order to fully put it to use. However, the difference won't be incredibly noticeable. I will see what I can do though.

Alright thank you again for trying to help.

And I guess whichever is better for gaming :) no real personal preference

Partly why I thought my budget will fit was because I thought a 30$ evo 212 will be enough.

But please correct me if I'm wrong. Certainly wont want to fry my pc, or short out my system with a bad psu.

That's why if its going over 1200 a bit it's ok :)

That cooler is an excellent cooler and great for budgets. I also have Windows 7 picked, but I just like it more. It is now the same price as Windows 8 so it is really up to you.

Here is the thing, I am at $1150 with a Gigabyte 770, MSI Board, 8GB of Corsair Ram, great 650 watt power supply and the 4670k. I'm going to do my best to keep it as close to $1200 as possible, but it'll be more like $1300-$1400.

Yea thanks for trying to keep with the budget

I understand its a tight budget for pretty much top tier preformance

Just please stay as close as possible without too much drop in preormance

Also, do u think ill need a 750 watt instead because of oc?

$1300 with a great 60Hz 23" full HD Asus Monitor: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/fatboytyler/saved/1JWi

The other option would be to fork over another extra $100 for a total of $1400 to get that monitor you wanted. I can still probably do some tweaking, but it's late here so it'll have to wait haha.

I also could not fit an SSD into that budget, which sucks, but you'll still get great performance regardless.

EDIT: 650 is more than enough for that GPU and CPU with an overclock. 750 would be stretching the budget even more.

Thanks everything looks great

One question though, will the msi mobo be good enough ?

I saw some Asus extreme z87 go for a lot more and was wondering the difference between them in terms of performance

Also, the reason I wanted the 144hz was because I heard even if your gpu/CPU can run at 150 fps, your screen can only refresh at 60 fps. Which makes my expensive 770 useless

Don't know if that's true though

MSI Is a great brand. I went with that board since it is the cheapest of the Z87 boards, but should still perform incredibly well. I know their $150 actual "gaming" Z87 board is excellent. If you're willing to go an extra $30 bucks you could get a gaming branded Gigabyte, MSI, or Asus board.

And your information is correct. However being able to tell a difference from 60FPS to 120FPS+ is not likely unless you have an incredibly keen eye. It would be nice to have a 120/144Hz monitor, but they also cost more which keeps putting you more and more over budget.

Ok Thank you.

I'm just curious as to the actual performance difference between a MSI
Z87-GD65 Gaming and a GD 43 like the one picked. If it's only like 10% and it won't drop the speed of my CPU/GPU i can just live with it. I'm just scared it may bottleneck my really expensive GPU. Which will again, ruin the whole point of the 770.

The higher dollar motherboards essentially have more features, such as Dual PCI Express 3.0 (Ideal for SLI one day), more overclocking options, built in wireless. Speaking of that, will you need wireless? Or are you plugging in through an ethernet cable? As far as build quality, all 3 brands and all their models are high quality. The more expensive fancy ones have fancy looking heatsinks on the motherboard because of all the extra features they have produce extra heat. The chances of you over heating even the one picked out are slim to none. Like I said the key differences are SLI/XFire capability, built in wireless, and over clocking options. Not sure how the Z87 cheaper boards are setup, but if its like my cheaper MSI Z77-G41 then you won't have nearly as many overclocking options, BUT you should still obtain near 4.5 no problem at all. I have heard Haswell is a bit trickier to overclock and has more heat, but with that cooler you'll be fine to go into the low to mid 4's GHz.

I may need a wireless adapter. But they can be easyily installed onto the MOBO and bought for around 20$ right?

In the end I think i'm looking at something like this. It would be nice to cut it down by 300$. But i just don't see how without losing performance

Really the only way to cut down the cost would be change to the GPU, or Monitor. Also, if you will NEVER EVER EVER overclock, then we can get the non K versions, cheaper non OCing motherboard, and no cooler.

EDIT: But to get near $300 you'll have to change the GPU and Monitor

Yea. I'm just trying to cut it to around 1400 at this point..

trying to find some cheap Microsoft if possible. Then maybe not buy the keyboard. And just get a 40$ mouse, as i don't just need macro keys that much.

thanks for your help dude. How would i install a wireless btw? just curious

Well, you could just up the mobo to one with built in wireless. I'd have to check if the $140/$150 ones have it built in, if so that will be the same as buying a wireless card. But if you end up getting a wireless card, they make ones that plug into an extra PCI slot or they make USB ones. I use a $30 USB one when I'm home and it works great.

Yea, i could'nt seem to find a build in MOBO with wireless for around 150$. Not even the extreme 4 has the option of wireless.

Which wireless would you suggest?

Also after trying to reduce the price. I decided just to wait for a sale of the Anker percison mouse and skip the gaming keyboard. Also, get the 840 instead of 840 pro

1533$ will be a high price. but i think it'll be worth it?
