I have a question that would be difficult to answer currently but I would like to have some friendly community input on it. I currently have 1 radeon 7870 graphics card in my system. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121649

My question is would buying another one of these cards for ~$220 on Newegg be more beneficial than buying a brand new Gtx 780 or radeon 8970 based upon theoretical performance.

If you already have both the 7870 and a PSU that can support two of them, then by all means get the second 7870. It will be much cheaper and will probably last another 2 generations before you need to upgrade.

Buying the newer card would outperform the double in some aspects depending on what type of mobo you have. The new cards have a single gpu almost exactly as powerful as 2 higher end mid gaming budget cards and having it be a single gpu would benefit you greatly, rather than sli/crossfire(which most games ah heck on about). It just all depends on personal preference at this point.
