Hey all. I was recently gaming and started to smell a burning smell. It didn't click with me what it may have been for about 20 minutes then I checked AI Suite 2 and it showed that my CPU fan had stopped and the CPU was running at 65c. So this was where the burning smell was from. I changed the fan and everything is fine.

My question is should I worry about any damage that may have been done to any components? AMD FX-4100 + ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0

Cheers.

Though your system has recovered and is functioning as it should, cpu fan stopping is a serious thing. Since you've changed the fan, most probably, your fan only burned out. The system would have tripped itself automatically had your cpu or mobo reached undesirable temps.

Having said that, I would still suggest you to carefully examine your board and psu for any visible dark spots on the pcb indicating burned components. Also take ram sticks out and examine them as well.

good luck
