Hi,
I'm looking to get a new graphics card for my laptop for editing videos and such. I've started to develop a basic understanding of the different types, and I've seen quite a lot of tutorials with a desktop, but I still don't really understand graphic cards with laptops very well. Now from what I've heard here, graphics cards for laptops can rarely be replaced. What I don't get though, is that there is a video on youtube showing you how to replace your graphics card (for a laptop) manually. When is it possible to replace a graphics card for a laptop? Does the graphics card have to be dedicated for it to be upgraded at all? How common is it for a laptop to have a dedicated graphics card? Sorry for all the questions it's just I really need some info. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

So you're saying it's cheaper to buy a whole new computer instead of just buying a new graphics card?

Generally impossible to upgrade, most are soldered to Mobo using sophisticated Balling machines, and even the few with discrete GPUs would have specific Mobos and cooling systems. Actually for Video Editing you need the power in the CPU with lots of RAM. ie an i7 with 16 Gb RAM. To do this with a laptop it costs, see this as an example

Best advice is to customize a desktop with an i7 and as much RAM as you can afford, or one of the FX series AMD (Good value for money, but consume more power)
