Hello,
I really need your help. I have exams coming up soon so need to get back on my computer as soon as possible. I have a notebook with windows XP. The model is Compaq mini CQ10-400.

When I switch the notebook on it displays the "BOOTMGR IS MISSING"... message. I cannot get on my computer passed that screen, apart from when I press escape after pressing Ctrl, Alt, Del. It gives me 4 options ... " F1 system information, F2 system diagnostics, F9 boot device options, F10 BIOS setup."

There is no disc drive so what should I do, and what is the easiest way to fix this issue.

Thanks in advance.

Go to BIOS and check if your HDD is listed. If it is Apply or Load your BIOS defaults. Ran also Hardware diagnostics using f2. It would also be advisable you call the manufacturer which is HP. 800-474-6836

I cannot get on to the website on the affected PC, and I cannot download it to a disc to insert as there is no disc drive. Can I still use the tool, and If so how?

I have run hard disk diagnostic and various other tests but no error has been highlighted. I checked BIOS, and notebook hard drive appears to be listed, and I loaded defaults but still nothing.

If this helps anyway understand the issue I checked the error log, and the error is "03F0".

Thanks

03F0 I think is already a hardware failure. Backup your files if still possible and call for support.

I can't backup my files. If it is a hardware failure, does that mean I will need to reinstall windows XP or is there another solution I will need to use?

Use a bootable usb.

Download yumi (HERE) and create the bootable drive following the instructions. Then "add" the boot repair iso to the thumb drive. Put the usb in the problem pc, boot to bios and select to boot from the usb. When the usb menu screen appears, choose the boot repair.
