PCI riser cables...

Hi everyone!

I have just started a little project to build my own PC case, and have come accross the term pci riser cable. After a quick google search, (0.18 seconds to be exact XD) I found out that they are used as an extension between a PCI/PCI-e card and a PCI/PCI-e socket. My question is, by using this is there any performance loss, i.e., is there any interference between the socket and the card with the introduction of a riser cable?

I am asking as I plan on creating a large case, where the motherboard will be fitted in the center of the case. This means that the graphics cards I use will not exhaust air out of the case, rather into it. So I have 2 options, (To my knowledge, please correct me if I'm wrong), which are:

A. Create a channel to funnel the hot air out of the case
B. use PCI risers and fit the cards to the case, like you do with a normal chasis

I think that risers would look neater, especially with some custom sheathing over them, than a funnel. A penny for your thoughts on this?

Thanks!
