Hello all. Long time lurker, first time builder here. I've been researching my first custom build for a couple months, and now that all the big releases have come and gone, I'm finally just a day or two away from ordering everything. However, I'm still really torn regarding what GPU I should buy.

My proposed specs are as follows:
Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (already got it on sale for $65 from NCIX US)
Corsair AX860 PSU
MSI Z87 GD65 Gaming board
Intel Core i5 4670K
16GB Corsair Vengeance RAM
Samsung 840 250GB SSD
Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM HDD
Asus VG248QE 144Hz monitor

The purpose of this rig is gaming, particularly to be able to play Battlefield 4 at 100+ FPS with only minor image quality reductions. I will be buying a CPU cooler and overclocking later, but I plan to wait a month or two first to see what the Swiftech H320 has to offer.

So the 3 options I'm torn between are:

1. Getting a GTX 770, which seems to be the best value high end card available.

2. Ponying up for the GTX 780 for that nice performance boost despite the lower bang for the buck.

3. Waiting for Maxwell, which is supposedly going to be amazing, and just getting a GTX 650 Ti Boost in the meantime, which I hope I could still sell for at least $100 once Maxwell comes out. If not, I might even be willing to hang on to my HD 5850 and tough it out till the end of the year if Maxwell really is worth the wait, even though I would obviously have to turn the BF4 settings way down.

Whichever route I go, I plan on having this rig last me about 5 years, with a GPU upgrade (either a second card or a single new one) about halfway through that lifespan. The problem I have is not necessarily that I can't afford a GTX 780, but rather that I want the best possible value (obviously), and I would be pretty annoyed if i paid that pretty steep price and then 6-8 months later a new card came out which performed 30% or more better and cost $100 less too. Anyway, I apologize for my long-winded-ness and thank you in advance for any advice you might have.

Nothing you are buying will last 5 years, so...

No point waiting around, the 700 series has just come out. Go for it. The 780 is quite a bit faster than the 770, but doesn't scale linearly in terms of price/performance, its up to you to decide if its worth it.
