So I have an alienware m14x laptop which I had connected with an older 22 inch hp monitor with hdmi and there was sound and everything was fine. But now I recently got the BenQ XL2420T 24 inch monitor which replaced the old one and I connected it via the same hdmi cable, updated drivers and did all that but no sound comes out of it? Everything else works fine so I am really confused as to what the problem is.

have you gone through the menu system to see if the speakers are enabled and not muted?

and you've made sure the HDMI audio on the computer is enabled?

I've been through the menu, volume is at 100, speakers are not muted either. And the HDMI on the computer should be enabled as with the last monitor the sound was working fine, I think.

also want to add that when i go in the "sound" menu from the control panel and play music or something , it shows the green bars moving up and down to say sound is playing, but nothing is coming out of the speakers

Dear Jalapenis,
If we understdood well, you are expecting to have sound from the monitor or if you want to get sound from the headset output of the monitor? The XL2420T does not have built in speakers.
Kind Regards,

I'm sure the OP means from the headphone jack on the monitor - as you ^^ point out, there are no speakers on the monitor

I have a simular problem.. But not quite the same.
I have an Sony Vaio P13 with an docking station.
I get sound out via the hdmi, and use the jack in the monitor. But the sound drops out randomly. I have NO idea why. I have tried everything. Also the AVR Guard to fix the Silent Stream bug. But i still go the issue.
This is not to hijack this thread. Sorry if looks like that.
