Hello,
I am planning on building my first Gaming & Editing PC in just a few weeks. I just want to make sure I am not missing a crucial part or I will see something go wrong when I actually get the building part. Basically I just wanted to double check everything.

So here is what I am planning on starting with:

CPU: Intel i7-3770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core ($316.17 @ Newegg)

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($29.99 @ Newegg)

Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme6 ATX LGA 1155 Motherboard ($154.99 @ Newegg)

Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($119.99 @ Microcenter)

Storage: Western Digital Carvair Black 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($84.98 @ Outlet PC)

Storage: Western Digital Carvair Black 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($84.98 @ Outlet PC)

Storage: Samsung 840 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid Slate Disk ($92.99 @ NCIX US)

Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 770 2GB Video Card

Case: Corsair 650D ATX Mid Tower Case

Power Supply: CORSAIR HX Series HX850 850W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply ($169.99 @ Newegg)

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($99.99 @ Newegg)

Monitor: ASUS VN247H-P 24-Inch LED-Lit Monitor ($189.00 @Amazon)

Optical Drive: AsusDRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer ($19.96 @ OutletPC)

Thermal Compound: ARCTIC MX-4 (4g) Carbon-Based Thermal Compound, Non-Electricity Conductive, Non-Capacitive ($9.99 @ Newegg)

Wireless Adapter: ASUS PCE-N15 Wireless Adapter IEEE 802.11b/g/n PCI Express 300/300Mbps Transfer/Receive Rate 64-bit WEP, 128-bit WEP, WPA2-PSK, WPA-PSK, WPS support ($26.99 @ Newegg)

Case Fans: Corsair Air Series AF120 Quiet Edition 39.9 CFM 120mm Fan ($14.99 @ Newegg)

Case Fans: Cooler Master R4-MFJR-07Fk-R1 110.0 CFM 200mm Fan ($19.99 @ Newegg)

I am aware of some things that you will probably point out, so to save your time, here they are:

1) I know I should go with the 840 Pro Series, but I am trying to keep this as close to $2000 or under.

2) I am going with 2 x 1TB HDD's because I want one for everyday use, and the other for just editing.

If there is anything else I should just be aware of, please let me know. Also, if there is a way to lower the price, while still having the same performance, please let me know too.

Thanks for any help! :)

Looks good, but I have a few questions:

Are you intentionally going with ivybridge over haswell?

Do you plan on adding liquid cooling or another graphics card? If not, 850W is over kill and you could save and be very safe with a 750W.

The Corsair 650D is a midtower case, if you plan on liquid cooling you should get a full tower case and there many good full tower cases for less than $150.

Well from what I've heard, the Haswell CPU's don't have a good OC. Now I'm starting to wonder if that is not true. Is it?

Maybe much later on down the line. But not for now, I'm just planning to OC to a 4.5GHz. Liquid Cooling, I'm not sure. I might or I might not. Not sure if there is any benefit. What are your thoughts?

I am definitely not going the water cooling route, only because it is way to expensive and complicated for what I'd be doing.

You are right, Haswell is not any better at overclocking in comparison to IvyBridge. And if you are really into overclocking IvyBridge looks like the superior choice.
* There are articles that support this so there is no need to second guess yourself
http://vr-zone.com/articles/haswell-4770k-vs-ivy-bridge-4770k-4-6ghz/32838.html

I am more into gaming and right now I am still using the lga 1156 core so I am going haswell for the updated socket and the new mobos.

I have an all in one liquid cooler and it is amazing, and was really easy to put in. For my upcoming build I am doing a custom loop. Can you overclock to 4.6 with just a fan and heatsink? When we overlclocked at school we used ln2 I got from the Chemistry department.

Unrelated: For an extra $26 couldn't you find a mobo with integrated wireless support?

I am not a serious overclocker, so should I go with the Haswell then? Would I be able to get a 4.3- 4.5GHz with Haswell?

So should I need a full size case if I decide to use a all-in-one liquid cooler later on?

Which Motherboard would you recommend if going with Haswell:

This one (ASrock)

This one (ASUS)

If you are overclocking, I think ivybridge is the way to go, b/c there are no benefits to haswell in this regard, and ivybridge is cheaper in comparison.

My all in one is an H60 so it fits right onto the backpanel of my case.

Well it seemed like the Haswell beat the Ivy Bridge on that link you provided. So do you think it is better just to go with Haswell and not worry about OC? I don't mind doing it if I have to, but is it going to be faster is what I focus on. What do you think that is a better choice?

If I went with Haswell, what PSU should I go with? I'd like to go with Corsair Modular PSU's.

The Haswell vs Ivybridge oc is not cost effective. The unlocked processors are themselves more expensive and the new mobos are also significantly more expensive.

So in your opinion, what would you do? I am gaming, editing, and multitasking.

What you have right now is great. You could shop around for some cheaper parts. PCpartpicker.com is pretty good. And right now newegg is have a sale on memory.

So really, there is no performance boost for the money in Haswell?
