Need some help with my hard disks. After I successfully cloned my old Maxtor 160gb sata hdd to my new Seagate 500 gig, I set my primary disk to the new hard drive through my BIOS. The problem is when I boot up it will not recognize that the new drive has windows installed. If anyone can help I would appreciate it! Also, I noticed my old hdd has the boot (highlighted in red) but the new drive doesnt. http://i.imgur.com/ozN8b4O.png?1

Did you clone the boot sector too? Btw, why is the new drive E: and not C:? When you were in BIOS, did you also set the new drive as the 1st boot device?

With the power off swap cables from the 160gb to the 500gb and boot up without the 160gb drive in the system. Once its booted up you can install the 160gb drive (power first then sata cable after it has spun up) and format it

It should have been chosen at the time of the disk cloning. Some pgms do it automatically, some you have to specify it.

I'm assuming you're good since there's no further activity here but I just finished cloning successfully and almost all cloning websites instruct to disconnect the original hdd completely, boot up with the new cloned in the old hdd sata position (this isn't always necessary but has obvious reasons why it helps) and make sure everything works well with your new clone. The reason I'm reading through the forums right now though is I want to use my old hdd but want to avoid problems in reinstating it. Hope this helps! I'll continue reading elswhere in the mean time. Please update us when you get a chance if anything you learned in your process could help others with likely similar issues!

Thanks!

its been a while but all i did was literally wipe the hdd, and re-install windows from scratch :/  it was a long process. i just used the product key from my original windows 7 to activate it as well.

Thank you for the update.
A clean install of windows is the recommended way to go but is certainly alot of work.
