"Should have left well enough alone" and "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." I usually stick to these axioms pretty well. So when I was reading my manual about my motherboard, and how easy it is to use Live Update to update the BIOS, and, according to the manual, make the computer run faster, instead of sticking to what I usually do (don't mess with stuff if it is running perfectly), I thought, "why not?"

So I restarted, entered the "Click BIOS II" screen, and clicked "Live Update". It connected, downloaded the update, and began to install. Within moments, I entered an MS-DOS style screen that looked like this: http://s2.postimg.org/3pbvyfgg9/2013_06_10_17_13_27.jpg . I sensed something was wrong; the screen did not change for several minutes. So I was patient, knowing the worst possible thing to do while updating hardware is to force power down the computer. Now, it has been over an hour stuck on this screen.

My simple question: what do I do now?

Thanks in advance for your help.

M-Flash < Flasback

Compared to common motherboard which need extra BIOS chips, MSI’s M-Flash has a double advantage which doesn’t need extra components and secondly, all your BIOS data will be saved in the USB drive. The stored data does not only have backup and upgrade function, moreover it can also be seen as a portable BIOS chip which is actually able to boot up your PC.

Features
- Backup/Restore Your BIOS to/from Any USB Flash Disk
- Avoid Unnecessary Repair Due to Accident Failures During The Upgrading Process
- Earn more BIOS Lifespan by Reducing Unnecessary Rewriting Process

Not sure if that answered my question but thank you for the information. I guess what I really want to know is how long do I wait before I give up and do a hard shutdown? From there, if the computer will not boot, then what do I do? I get the feeling your response was automated; I look forward to any further help anyone might have. Thank you.

I am happy to report that following a hard power down, the computer booted fine. It must not have even begun installation of the new BIOS. I re-entered the BIOS screen and it displays the old version of the BIOS. I won't be trying to update BIOS again. Ever.

Everything is running fine.

Thank you all for your help.
