Looking for some thought and input. Been dealing with stuttering on my Gigabyte 7870 OC ghz edition since about the time I got it in december. Swapped parts out to isolate the problem and got to my video card which i swapped out for a 5870 and there was no stutter so thought it was my GPU going bad. But just on a whim I Overclocked my Phenom II x6 1090T from 3.2 to 3.9 via autoclocking Asus turbo evo program. and now the stutter on desktop and in game seemed to go away. Interesting if the CPU was bottlenecking the GPU, I wouldnt think it would considering its only two years or so since they came out.
Could this be indicative of something much larger going on with my CPU? I always thought that a CPU with problems will basically not work, that there isnt a part way there.

problems with CPU's are very rear (disregarding misuse from overclocking)

As far as a bottleneck its all going to depend on the game. some games (e.g. BF3) are very CPU heavy games while others are more on the video card.

try having task manager open while playing, flick back to it mid game and see what your CPU usage is at. above 70% and it may be limiting the card.
