Two nights ago I was going about my normal nightly internet routine. Everything was working fine, 27 mbs download speed 5.50 mbs upload speed. The next morning I woke up and I noticed alot of things loading very slow. I checked speedtest.net and I was only getting 1.00 avg download speed, but yet still had a 5.50 mbs upload speed. I tried updating my firmware, I tried changing the wireless channels around, switching from Mixed over to Wireless-G. I've been on other forums that have told me to do those types of things but nothing has improved my speeds. The Router I am using is the Linksys e4200. I've had it since around the end of Janurary this year.

Someone could also be using your connection. Even if it is protected, it can be hacked. Go to Control Panel-Network and Internet-Network and Sharing Center and click the network. It will show you those connected. Also go to your URL bar and type in 198.162.1.1 and log in with your information. It will have all kinds of information about your network. If no one else is using it, then maybe something is interfering with it (like walls).

I checked if anyone was using my connection. All I saw was my PC and my laptop. I have a suspicion that it MAY be my ISP. I got around to moving my tower out to the living room where my router is located. I hooked my desktop up to my living room TV, and hardwired the router into my computer. The speeds didn't improve at all. So then I tried hard wiring from the modem to my pc, but the speeds were still just as slow as usual.

Hi there,

I have the same problem. No matter how much I tried to reset everything as you did, nothing worked. After long and several calls to my internet provider they told me that something might have changed in my neighbourhood. Something is interfering with my connection.
Ask your neighbours if they have installed something new, whatever. It could be a radio, microwave or yet another powerful router...

Good luck, I am still working on mine. A friend is visiting me tomorrow with a radiation metering device to search for interference.

I am also getting a similar problem. First of all I got a new router last year and noticed that it was much faster than my previous router, I enjoyed having faster internet for about 5 months UNTIL we had new neighbours the internet then which included download / upload as well as watching youtube vids were then very slow, youtube vids used to keep stopping and taking forever at loading. The neighbours then moved out of the house and it was empty again for about 5 months which I enjoyed fast internet again. Now we have some more neighbours and the same situation has begun AGAIN ! I am now thinking they are using something to connect to my router however I have checked network / sharing on control panel and it's only my router which is connected. I need to sort this out, I have done anti-virus and ran spybot and everything is ok.

Actually I think I've now sorted it ! I have just gone into the Control Panel - Network and Sharing Centre and I have now turned off - Public Folder Sharing. Now back on youtube and before I upload a 15 min vid on Youtube which took about 75 mins - now I thought of trying to upload the video again just to see how long it was going to say and says this time 23 mins !! That's more like it! So what was going on before then ?
