How to set up my HDD with my SSD already running the OS

I'm loving my new 120 GB SSD however I'm worried about it filling up too quickly. I bought and have "installed" an HDD but I'm having trouble installing programs onto it. Right now it is showing up like an external hard drive or a flash drive, however I can't even open it up. Is this a problem because I installed it after I booted up my system on my SSD first and installed the HDD after? Any ideas or help on this would be much appreciated!

  1. What do you see in Disk Management?
Win7 - Start - Type 'Disk' and choose 'Create and Format Disks'

    Win 8 - Winkey plus X
    Choose 'Disk Management'

Not sure. I will check this. Thanks for the quick reply.
  3. As dodger46 stated, you need to use disk management to "initialize" the drive before it will show in windows. If the drive is over 2TB, use GPT instead of MBR for the partition type.
  4. Thanks so much! I had to go into "Disk Management" and right-click on my disk and select "New Volume".
