Hi,
I just bought my ASUS RT AC66U to add to my current setup and I would like to use the Ai Disk features (accessing my files via FTP). However I am having problems setting up the DDNS. The asus router always give me an "Invalid Ip" error. Also, there is a note that says DDNS cannot work in a multiple-NAT environment.

My current setup:
Master modem/router (Thomson Cable modem/router provided by my ISP)WAN : Dynamic Ip from my isp
IP: 192.168.1.1
DHCP : Disable

Asus Router (RT AC66U)
WAN Connection Type : Static IP
WAN IP : 192.168.1.2
Subnet : 255.255.255.0
Gateway : 192.168.1.1
DNS 1: 192.168.1.1
DNS 2: 8.8.8.8

LAN IP : 192.168.2.1
Subnet : 255.255.255
DHCP : Enabled
DHCP Range : 192.168.2.10 - 192.168.2.100
Gateway : 192.168.2.1
DNS 1 : 192.168.2.1
DNS 2 : 192.168.1.1

I have an ethernet cable from the LAN port of my modem to the WAN port of my ASUS router. I understand that this is a double NAT after doing many researches online. I have found many solution online but non suited what I want.

Some solution that are not optimal for me
1. Disable the modem's router function so I dont have double NAT. I cannot do this with the current model of my modem/router supllied from my isp.

2. Use the modem/router as a DHCP and disable the DHCP on the ASUS router and operate the ASUS router as an Access Point mode. I also cannot do this as I believe I need to be operating my ASUS router in "wireless router" mode to use the Aidisk features.

My last resort would be to get a new modem that does not have a router function so the WAN IP on my ASUS router will have a public IP address instead of a private one.

Is there any way to get around this problem without having to go out and buy a new cable modem?

Any help would be greatly appreaciated

Thanks,
Tony

This is hard to diagnose without experiment different things. But just out of curiousity could you try this?

Master modem/router (Thomson Cable modem/router provided by my ISP)WAN : Dynamic Ip from my isp
IP: 192.168.1.1
DHCP : Disable

Asus Router (RT AC66U)
WAN Connection Type : Static IP
WAN IP : 192.168.1.2
Subnet : 255.255.255.0
Gateway : 192.168.1.1
DNS 1: 192.168.1.1
DNS 2: 8.8.8.8

LAN IP : 192.168.1.3
Subnet : 255.255.255.0
DHCP : Enabled
DHCP Range : 192.168.1.10 - 192.168.1.100
Gateway : 192.168.1.1
DNS 1 : 192.168.1.1
DNS 2 : 192.168.1.1

This way you are moving everything on to the same subnet. Let me know the result.

Thanks,
David

Hi David,

Thanks for the reply. However, when I did as you suggested and the ASUS router gave me an error. It says "WAN and LAN should have different IP addresses and subnet".

any other ideas?

Thanks
Tony
