Hey before you jump, that list is an entire year old. tech has advanced. a lot.

check out Sandisk drives, they can usually be had for cheap, and they have great performance.
also, the crucial M4 is highly regarded as a cheap and reliable (also fast) drive.
you might be able to get the successor the M500 for cheap.

As for Microcenter. indeed the Sandisk seems to be the cheapest for your wants. Go with the Ultra plus.

HI! Welcome to Tom's Hardware!

The Samsung 840 you linked to is a very good ssd and that sale price is very good too.

I normally Recommend Samsung solid state drives due to their proven performance and reliability. Crucial, Intel, and Plextor are also worth considering. If you are on a budget, then that pretty much rules out Intel. The Intel ssd's command a premium price. Best bet would probably be the Samsung 840 or the Crucial M4 when they are on sale.

I maintain the ssd database listed in the sticky at the very top of this forum section. Here is the link:

Scroll down to the brands and models you are interested in and follow the links to the technical reviews.

What would you recommend I do to compare SSD reliability. Is there any solid database that collects this info?
