dell monitor turning on and off

Please help! my dell fat screen 20 in keeps clicking on and off... nothing shows up on screen. I press the button and there is a click on and a click off... please help

Sounds like its fried or there is no signal coming from the video card or on-board video

If the "click" is audible and the monitor will restart after a short period of time (1-2 minutes), it sounds like your monitor board has a bad capacitor.

No it restarts instantly.

I would say it is one of the two i said.. are you using a video card or the on board?

Video card but thats not it. its not hooked inn to the computer and stil does it

Ok. Now i have hooked up another monitor but the resolution is to high. how do i change it blind????
