I just got my brand new evga gtx 780, and its freakin amazing gettin awesome performence, but after playing for a while i checked the temps, thinking it will all be good because its brand new(not overclocked or anything).

and i see its at 75C,max allowed is 95C according to nvidia's site, but its still weird its that hot right?
so i thought maybe i should increase fan speed, which was working at like 40% while gaming.

so how do i increase the fan speed? or maybe i shouldnt worry about 75C?

Thanks!

Thats very cool, the card clocks itself to target 80C so it means the cooler is outdoing the card. You could overclock the card if you wanted, the 780's are getting some really great overclocking results, 20% more performance in some cases, 75C is next to nothing.

I asked Zotac (because it was the manufacturer I got mine from) and Nvidia the same thing to be sure, they both said the card should be totally fine to operate for a few years at 90C. So if you wanted, you could decrease the fan speed even more and let it run upto that.

Thank you!, i would still like to get more responds just to be just its all good

If you download EVGA Precision X then you can adjust what temperatures you would like to be the highest. The GPU will then itself underclock itself to maintain that temperature you would like.

The GPU itself is set to 80 celcius, your temperature being 75 celcius is very good. Because if the GPU can't reach the set temperature, then it will give you 100% performance!

Nothing to worry about. If you just want lower temperatures, then set the temperature target lower or increase fan speed.

In my Beginner's overclocking guide I go through how you make your own fan curve, it is much similar of how you do it in EVGA Precision X even though I'm using another software. Good luck!

Your temps are well within specifications which is 95C max. You can install Precision X and use a slightly more aggressive fan profile to keep the temps lower. You'd be surprised at how little you just bump the minimum fan speed and slight increase the slope. I'm not on my gaming PC right now otherwise I'd post the points on the graph for you, but my 780s never get above the 60s with my fans rarely exceeding 60%s with GPU usages in the high 90s for extended periods. These things must be extremely overclockable considering how little it takes to keep them cool, but I never overclock my cards. I had the same luck with my 680s. The temps maxed out in the 60s with a slightly aggressive custom fan profile.

I'm considering just reducing the slope and letting those cards get to the 70s and keeping the fans a bit quieter that way. I just don't find myself taking myself away from gaming enough to get exactly the right setting though.

You just have to play around with custom fan profiles in Precision X if you want to keep your 780 cooler, but I wouldn't even worry about the temps you're getting.

When you are on ur pc, can you please suggest me the best temp\performence settings on evga precision? Thanks!

Actually the GTX 400 series (470 & 480) had max temps of 94C. And they would use every bit of it!!

The GTX 780 should be a much cooler running card compared to those.

As posted above I'd recommend installing EVGA Precision X and creating your own custom fan profiles if you're concerned. You can force the card to run the cooling fan at higher than 40% to keep your temps down.

That being said, 75C isn't really that hot for what the card is rated to hit as a threshold.

should i keep the fans on constant 60%? or should i just let AUTO do its thing? will keeping my fans on 60% hurt the gpu in long term?

The temps on these cards have gotten gradually cooler from the 400 series to now. My Nvidia spec'd 580s used to run in the low 90Cs when at full load. I never used software like Precision X or Afterburner with these, so I'm not sure if this could have been better. They were still within spec though and ran without issue. My 680s would reach the upper 70s without the fan profile and the 60s with it. My 780s run about as cool as my 680s did.

OP... My fan profile:
Minimum is fan at 30%
Then plot points:
30,30
40,40
50,60
60,70
70,80
90,100

Now that I think of it, these may be defaults within Precision X since I updated the software recently. I'm just not sure. I know it kept my on-screen display settings from the old version and applied them to the new version.

You can use MSI Afterburner or EVGA Precision X to create "custom fan curves" which allow you to determine how fast the cooler runs at certain temperatures. Leaving it at 60% all the time may not be the best choice. Not only can that be loud, but at high temps it may need to be higher than that.

The 400 series was notorious for being extremely hot (which in electrical world means inefficient power use). The 500 and 600 series got better. The 700 series may well be "hot" (and have a ceiling equivalent to the 400's) but they run cooler because of better cooler designs.

That said I run my EVGA ACX GTX 770 @ defaults and it never gets loud and I've yet to see it over 70C while gaming. An aftermarket cooler on the video card can make a substantial difference.
