hey

i am just looking for a bit of advice as i am thinking it is time for a pc rig upgrade.
my current build is a
-asus p6t SE mb, i7 920, hyper 212 evo, asus 560 ti, 16gb corsair vengeance 1600, xfx 650 xxx edition, 240gb corsair force 3 ssd, barracuda 2 tb.
and i think that it may be time to upgrade to haswell with the new releases. i have been planning this for a while, but dont know what may happen with the pricing. i am tempted by the
gigabyte GA z87- oc, which is currently £168 on aria.
and the i7 4770k, which is £269.
i am not sure if this pricing will drop after a month or two, or if it will probably maintain the same pricing. i am new to pc building so dont really have any prior knowledge to ivybridge and sandybridge pricing changes after release.
any advice would be great!
thanks.

Do you have any problem with your current rig? I would upgrade BUT not now, I would wait a little more time to see possible problems of this Haswell generation and maybe after a drop price, go with Ivy or Haswell.

i dont have any problems right this minute to be honest! it is a very old motherboard and i dont think it is the most stable, as when gaming it does have a tendency to just shut itself down if the gpu or cpu get too hot, i am not sure which one it is, but it does get very frustrating. i have tried sourcing the problem with help from lots of people but cant work out what it could be. I think that is some good advice though just to see if there are any possible problems. the only reason i was so tempted at the moment was because that motherboard price seemed like such a great deal?
luckily i have had a number of problems with asus 560ti cards bought from amazon and this is my fourth one, i emailed them when this shut down problem first began and they confirmed that they would give me a full refund. so that will help alot when going for my next card. i just want to wait abit and see what comes of the nvidia 700 series. 760ti would go down nicely i think!

How much time passed since the last time that you applied thermal paste to the CPU? If you are having problems the upgrade is a good idea, but Haswell is really new too and could also have some problems that we don´t know now. If you can wait a little more time, I would do it and after that and see Haswell performance and opinions, upgrade to Haswell or Ivy Bridge plus a GTX 7xx.

i applied it again when i bought the hyper 212 evo cpu cooler which was about 6 months ago. so not long at all. but that was just to the cooler, when i first got the pc i had somebody else build it as i didnt know how to, and so it wasnt me that installed the cpu in the first place. hence why i am looking forward to the upgrade because it means i can do everything myself. haha. i was just worried that the gigabyte z87 oc would go back up in price. but it doesnt seem to say sale so maybe it will stick to £170.

Personally I don't like Gigabyte for motherboards, I prefer ASUS, MIS or ASRock.

really, oh, i only have experience with Asus, but just from reading reviews and generally learning alot more about pc building it looked like Gigabyte was rated prity much second to Asus. with MSi prity close behind.

are there any motherboards under the £200 mark that you would reccomend, i would like as many usb 3 and SATA 6 as possible and preferably bluetooth and wifi card installed.
i have to say i was also slightly vain in that choice, as i absolutely love the black and orange colouring! haha!
any help would be great! thanks!

Thanks for all the help with my upgrade and that. as i am a student and cant afford too much. i am studying architecture, but i also am a fairly big pc gamer, and i do enjoy dabbling in overclocking although i dont do it in an overly enthusiast way. just enjoy learning the ropes is you know what i mean. but would like to get more knowledgeable
the motherboards i was thinking about are -

Gigabyte GA-z87X OC for £168
Asus Z87 Pro -£159
MSI Z87 Mpower - £191
Gigabyte GAz87X-UD3H-£151
Asus Z87 Sabertooth-£189
MSI z87 G45 - £118
MSI z87 G65 - £156

any help would be great! thanks

Well, from those options I would go in this order.

ASUS Z87 Pro > MSI Z87 MPower > ASUS Z87 Sabertooth > Gigabyte Z87X OC > MSI Z87 G65 > Gigabyte Z87X UD3H > MSI Z87 G45.
