Hi guys!

I am not a first time builder, but I am far from a pro, so I would love a little help. I am looking to build a future proof, mid-price video editing machine, that will see occasional gaming use as well. Here's what I have come up with. Can anyone see any pitfalls? Room for savings?

Thanks!

I have read that the quad core makes a significant difference in HD editing, which is why I stepped up to i7. Have you not found that to be the case?

the most time consuming part of video editing is encoding, which is cpu bound. eventhough most apps these days do have support for openCL and openGL, in real world usage, they are not quite significant yet.

i'd say go for the fastest cpu with the most cpu core. better graphics only with spare budget.

OP can cut the budget for the mobo so that he could spend on a better graphics card.

technically both the i7 and i5 are quadcores.
in certain cases, hyperthreading in i7 may or may not give more advantage over i5 in video editing... but it will always be slightly better (at least) than an i5, unless we're comparing stock i7 vs highly clocked i5-K
