I'm having trouble finding a good guide on how to do this. The new SSD will be brand new and unformated. Does anyone know what would be the easiest way to do this? I'm transfering my OS (Windows 8) and everything on my current SSD to my new one.

Old SSD is a Vertex 3 120GB and the new one is a Corsair Neutron GTX 120GB. Is there an easy way to do that doesn't require an extra computer?

Thanks.

Very simple!
Use the Windows 8 backup appto create a system image. Normally windows will look for where to place the image and will selec a internal HDD. When the image is completed it will prompt you to create a bootable system repair Disk.

When you get the new ssd, swap it for the one that is currently in the computer and boot to the repair disk, select retore using an image. 15 Mins later reboot to new SSD.

NOTE: For windows 7 this was easily found, go to control panel, select system then back up. Create system image is on left pane.
Windows 8, for some STUPIED reason Hid this app.
To find, See: http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/window-on-windows/restore-windows-8-with-system-image-recovery/7464

Scoot down to "Creating a System Image" to find the "buried app LOL"
NOTE: they chose to put the image on a set of DVDs - IF YOU have a Internal HDD, windows will "suggest" putting it there - PUT it there. I also copy this image to a backup external HDD just for added safety.

TO restore read down to "Launching System Image Recovery" if you placed the image on internal HDD it ill find it and ask for verification.

Alternative places to put image is directly to an external BU HDD, or a Thumbdrive (I've used all three)

I have a media HDD in my computer as well. Will I need to format the new SSD before I go ahead with the clone?

Edit - It looks like I could also just use the Acronis True Image trial and do this as well. I guess I still want to know if I need to pre-format my new SSD before I clone it over.
