I know I need a new battery, but that doesn't explain why my laptop won't let me open anything like PowerPoint, excel, etc. the only things I can open are Microsoft word (only through opening an existing file), iTunes, and the Internet (also because I had a link in one of my word documents). Whenever I try to open something a window pops up saying file does not exist and another shows several icons and says .exe which do you want to open this file with. I can't download anything at all.

When I did that, the target location for the applications showed Microsoft office home and student 2007, but it was grey and you couldn't click on the words. When I did it to the QuickTime Player the target box said it was in program files and was immediately highlighted. The open file location for all the Microsoft applications (PowerPoint, word, excel) would not let me click on it. But with the QuickTime player it let me click on the open file location button and took me to the folder.

Download Malware bytes and avast and run some virus scans.

It once happened to me that my Notepad wouldn't open, what I did was look for the original file of Notepad, not the short cut. I don't think this is your problem, but try it any ways. Search for the original program.

Good luck.
