I want the best of the 2. I don't care for AMD's free games... pc games are relatively inexpensive and I will buy as I need.

Gigabyte GTX 770

Gigabyte HD 7970

My build is for browsing, and gaming. No video rendering. Which card will give me the top performance in BF 3/4, Crysis 3, Planetside 2, and Skyrim?

Processor: i5-3570k
Mobo: Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H
PSU: XFX 650w 80+ Bronze
RAM: 8GB GSKILL Ares 1600mhz Cl9

If you don't care about game bundles... hands down GTX 770. But I highly prefer nVidia personally as I've always had better experiences with drivers that direction.

Here's a head to head comparison of the GTX 770 vs AMD 7970 though. They trade blows fairly well.

Every title is different though. Some titles are tweaked for AMD GPUs. Others are tweaked for nVidia GPUs.

The AMD 7970 has the advantage of 3GB of VRAM vs only 2GB on the GTX 770. So it's more prepared for higher resolutions than 1080p. That being said you likely would need to SLI if you wanted to play at higher than 1080p in the future.

You can get 770s with more memory if the 2 GB worries you. Gigabyte makes one with 4GB. I don't know if the 770 can actually utilize that memory or if it's just a gimmick.

I loked this review : http://www.anandtech.com/show/6994/nvidia-geforce-gtx-770-review

and the final tough is :

After all is said and done, the GTX 770 ends up beating the 7970GE at 6 games, while the 7970GE takes the other 4. Meanwhile within those individual games we’ll see anything between a near-tie to a very significant 20% advantage for either side, depending on the game in question. This is very much a repeat of what we saw with the GTX 680 versus the 7970GE, and GTX 670 versus the 7970.

Our advice then for prospective buyers is to first look at benchmarks for the games they intend to play. If you’re going to be focused on only a couple of games for the near future then there’s a very good chance one card or the other is going to be the best fit. Otherwise for gamers facing a wide selection of games or looking at future games where their performance is unknown, then the GTX 770 and 7970GE are in fact tied, and from a performance perspective you couldn’t go wrong with either one.

Playing PLANETSIDE 2 is the thing bothers me - this is very unbalanced optimized game you may hit lower than 30 FPS with NVIDIA and AMD

Look for good review with the PLANETSIDE 2 game result !
