ok so recently i have been having this weird problem with my 570. I made an oc profile in msi afterburner a while back and used to use it only when gaming but now i just leave it on all the time since it is a conservative OC and has always been 100% stable for me. for a month i have done this with no issues but now on OC and stock if i leave my computer at idle for like 2 minutes, my card randomly starts freaking out and i can hear the fan going nuts. In after burner i can see that out of nowhere my gpu usage suddenly maxes to 100% and the card has hit 70c rather quickly before it stopped. interesting thing tho is that as soon as i move the mouse, it stops. it goes back to normal and then everything is nice and cool. i am running the latest nvidia drivers and afterburner. anyone got a clue as to why my card flips nuts at random?

also i noticed when it does this, my fps drops to like 5. i was watching a video the first time it happened and suddenly it started to lag like no other and my cards fan went crazy. as soon as i moved the mouse though, the video went back to normal and the card cooled off. i searched and saw a thread similar to this but there wasn't a solution found so i started this one.

This is why I never OC my GPUs. As a rule of thumb if you need more performance buy a better GPU imo.

uhh, might wana run a malwarebytes.org free full system scan on ur PC. Or make sure you don't have any odd tasks set to run after no input. Could be a virus of some sort.

My 570's do not exibit this trait, however, i did have random, mid-game driver crashes in BF3 when BF3 first released. it was more prevelant with OC, but got better after driver revisions.

i have eset smart security 5 and have it set to a virus scan weekly and it hasn't picked up anything so i don't think its a virus. but today is the only day it has happened so far. but its happened twice in 2 hours so idk. im gonna do a driver roll back and keep it at stock to see how it goes.

Darkman: i feel the opposite. why spend $400 on a new card when you can improve what you got.

Cause an OC does not make the min framerate go up in any sort of tangible and solid way like getting a better series GPU would. Plus OCing cause problems like you are learning. An OCed 570 will never close the gap on even a GTX 660. My rule is to buy a GPU that you are happy with it's lowest performance situation from the factory and leave well enough alone.

again i somewhat disagree. ive had min and max go up with oc. granted it is a very small boost maybe 3-5 fps but its there. when i built this computer the 5XX series was the top of the line and since im broke and in college i don't plan to upgrade any time soon lol. i see where you are coming from though. an OC 570 probably wouldn't even outperform a stock 580 and getting a 6XX or 7XX series gpu would absolutely be a better solution but that costs $ haha

but yeah i rolled back and let it sit at OC and stock for about 5-10 minutes each and it hasn't happened yet so im going to give this a day and then update again. if it starts to flip out again im gonna pin this on the driver.

I don't suggest you to buy a new GPU as the GTX 570 is still very powerful. I would just return the settings back to factory and leave it alone. I have broke to many GPU from OCing to count on two hands so this is why I just don't even do it anymore unless when i first buy a new GPU to see how much an increase it can get with OC. That said the best OC I ever got was 5 fps LOL.

yupp stock this card is:
voltage: .988mv
core: 732mhz
shader: 1464mhz
memory clock: 1900mhz

my setup is:
voltage: 1050mv
Core: 850mhz
shader: 1700mhz
memory: 1900mhz (never changed this because when i did i would BSD. this clock is weird to mess with)

ive seen people take theirs to (guestimates, most on water):
voltage 1125mv
core: 910mhz
shader: 1850mhz
memory: dont remember but it wasn't much

so with all that said my oc is pretty decent but i don't want to toast the damn thing haha and yeah in bf3 there is never more than a 5fps gain haha

well now i changed my searches from "570 random load spikes" to "msi afterburner random load spikes" and now got tons of results. apparently afterburner is the culprit. any other program you guys can recommend. i have always ran afterburner so i don't know to much of what else is out there.

I don't think that it's MSI's problem... I also have a 570, and is getting the exact same problem. I also noticed that when these spikes happen, flash videos become extremely laggy. I uninstalled my afterburner, and popped a youtube video, and the same laggy-ness that the spikes cause are still present. I disabled hardware acc. and updated drivers and blablabla, but I srsly cannot find a solution or reason for this... Moving the mouse every minute or so seems to be the only temporary solution...

i forgot to put in here that i found out what happened. i had a bitcoin mining virus which means it was using my gpu to do math that somehow someone else gets money for? idk but if you google "bitcoin virus removal" you should be on your way to fixing it :)

I been having this probelm aswell. During youtube video, 2 mins or so it drops from 30 fps to 10ish(using fraps). Moving mouse and its smooth again for 2 mins...

I saw in afterburner that during the low FPS (10) the GPU usage was 100%...

Now i closed down afterburner and its smooth all the way, no more 100 GPU usage....its an afterburner bug in my case.

(BTW) Stop telling us its cause of the OC and blablabla....Cmon...
