Honestly, I would go for the AMD because it seems that games are becoming significantly more multi-core friendly. COH2 beta for example, an AMD 8350 user reports that he has a nice balanced load across all 8 cores (obviously this is anecdotal). If this is a sign of things to come then you would be better served by a higher count of slightly weaker cores than fewer strong cores. Then there is the fact AMD will be working closely with game devs on account of the architectural decisions taken by Sony and Microsoft with the next gen consoles.

In my opinion (and it is just opinion, no one can predict the future) this surely must benefit AMD and its users. If they don't take advantage of this position then they are very foolish.

i5-3570k generally performs better than the FX-8350 in games. Sometimes it by a decent 9+ FPS, other times it may only be 1 FPS, and in games that do not care how fast the CPU is as long as it does not limit the GPU it would be 0 FPS. In general, it depends on exactly which game you are trying to compare.

Programming games to make effective use of more than 4 cores is easier said than done and the vast majority of games only use 2 cores. There are games that can use 4 cores, but again, it depends on exactly which game you are talking about.
