ASRock Motherboard RAM compatibility

Hi,

With my new computer I've planned to use this motherboard

http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z77%20Pro3/?cat=Memory

and because of the price right now, this RAM:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006WAGGUK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

it isn't on the compatibility list for that motherboard, and now I'm unsure if it will work at all. Should I search for different RAM?

  1. Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB Kit (4GBx2) DDR3 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) CL9 @1.5V UDIMM 240-Pin Memory BLS2CP4G3D1609DS1S00

It will run on your board!
  2. You could grab an Asrock Z75 Pro3 and save a bit of money, it's practically identical to the Z77 Pro3.

    Hello, :hello:

Yes, the memory is compatible with your Motherboard. Perhaps, you could try a higher speed memory if you have Intel® K-Series processor. If you are okay with 1600MHz then going with lower latency(CL7) is a better idea. You can also try F3-12800CL7D-8GBXH or Corsair CMZ8GX3M2X1600C7R or if you are okay with value ram then click here for compatible CL7 memory.

Good luck with the upgrade. Cheers.
  4. Yes it will work QVLs are all but worthless - in fact quite often the higher freq sets won't work out of the Box - mobo manufacturers 'test' DRAM at the mobo's default value, not at the rated spec. I wrote an op/ed article on this here:

    http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=20387&Itemid=8

The Z77 is the better mobo over the Z75

And finally, I agree, if going w/ a K model CPU, if you do any multi-tasking at all or really put the computer to use, you'd like faster sticks of DRAM
  5. Thank you all very much for the answers and advice everyone. I'd pick all of your answers as the best solution because, well... they are ;)

Thanks for the motherboard ideas too!

Nope. The only difference is Intel SRT.
  7. The SRT and also the Z77 has an infrared header, had a few calls for that recently on home entertainment PCs, for $5 or so might as well pick up the additional feature
