To Mouse Pad Fanatics: I Need Help

I just purchased a G500 mouse for my new build and I don't have a mousepad. I'm near clueless when it comes to mouse pads. For the G500, will I need a cloth, rubber, or hard mouse pad for the sensor to perform best? Also if you know what I need, could you steer me towards some mouse pads? I don't want anything too expensive and I want it to be fairly large. Thanks!

I have the following Rocketfish mousepad. One side is smooth which allows mouse to easily glide across the surface for fast action. The other side is slightly coarse so there is a little bit of friction and allows for better control. I use the coarse side.
