Hi Friends, I had to replace a hard drive on my HP pavillion g6 laptop. How do I go about restoring the computer to windows 7. The laptop we preloaded as it came with no discs. can anyone help?? Please

If you have the OEM license key from off the laptop (likely under the battery or on the bottom-face), you can install windows from any OEM disk. Bear in mind that most of the major manufacturers have their own special little tools they like to install with the OS - Dell, Lenovo, Sony & Dell are all infamous for their additional bloatware. You may or may not have to contact Microsoft to activate windows - I have had to in some cases and not in others. Make sure you select the correct version of Windows (Home Premium, Pro or Ultimate) based on your license because it is specific to the version. x86 vs x64 does not matter, but the version does.

Good luck

Call HP Technical Support and order a restore disc:

This is why you should have been prompted to burn your own restore discs after purchasing a new computer. It is the manufacturers way of passing on the cost of a restore disc to the customer.

Alternatively, you can likely use an OEM installation disc for Windows 7, provided it matches the product SKU that shipped on your laptop originally. We can not provide you with discs here, but your license key should be on a sticker on the underside of your laptop.
