Ok so I've assembled most of my parts list for my new build but I need you guys to fine comb it for me. Basically tell me if you think I should swap any compinents and why and I would really appreciate someone letting me know what kind of power supply I'm going to need.

Case: NZXT Phantom 820 Gunmetal

Motherboard: ASUS Maximus V Formula

CPU: i7 3770k

RAM: G.SKILL Trident X Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200)

GPU: ASUS GTX 680 4GB

OS: Windows 7 Pro OEM (already have on hand lol)

So what do you guys think? Anything to change/add?

More about : build overwiew opinion power supply rating

Case, motherboard, RAM, and GPU are all overkill, and the CPU should be Haswell. Just stick with a 4770k and a Gigabyte UD3H motherboard, and get 16 GB Corsair Vengeance LP @ 1600 MHz. For a case, you can just get the Phantom 410, as that will more than suit your needs. For the GPU, get an MSI GTX 770 Lightning Edition, and not the 680. What does the rest of your build look like, and what is your budget? In terms of PSU, I would say a Corsair HX850 for $160.

Hhahaha Danny you swapped my whole build! I am working in the $1,700 range, originally I wanted to do 13 or less but I decided I wanted to be able to run BF3/4 on Ultra and actually build a full spec rig. Its main use will be programming and IT security work (I'm about to begin schooling) but I want it to be a one stop shop that will last for years to come and the expandability of this build is superb.

What I've done is upgraded the parts for a similar cost, as well as eliminated the things that are completetly unnecessary, like the huge case and the 32 GB of RAM. The system I have chosen will perform just as well (if not better) for less money.

Can't see the value of a 680 when the 770 is faster and waaaay cheaper .... why last generation ?

Again, why last generation MoBo and CPU ?

Exactly what I said. Wouldn't you agree that perhaps the case is a it excessive as well?

Yep, recommended the 500R for $70 (MSRP = $140) ... not to mention the combo discount on the HX850

Ok I'm definitely going to look into everything you've listed... Do you believe this build can run ULTRA on BF3? And what price range do you figure it to be in?

Well damn lol I gotta say I love how thorough that was...

I had chosen the huge case for large cooling expandability, I've had pretty bad luck with heat issues before and am not trying to cook my wallet

MOBO and CPU combo both came very highly recommended, have high expandability and a reasonable price so it seemed a good base

Thanks for the build idea though, I'm most definitely going to research these parts but I have to ask, why i5 not i7?

Don't bash me for this but that case is ugly as sin haha I personally prefer a more stylish approach as opposed to utilitarian. I know there is a smaller version of the NZXT case that's similar to the Phantom 820 though.
