Hey Guys. I want to install mac os x 10.8 on my machine. I will probably dual boot it with windows 7.

I just want to know what do I need to have.

I have the 10.8 but before I install it into my machine I try it first on my Virtual box before doing so.

And It doesn't install. I research it and it says I need to have 10.6.8 retail before I can Install 10.8.

And I have found 10.7 on retail. Can I install 10.8 on 10.7 machine ?

All you need to do is make a bootable USB install disk with the OSX 10.8 package. You do not need a previous version of the OS to install it. Search the web there are plenty of articles on how to make a bootable USB OSX 10.8 drive.

Above post is correct, bootable USB drive is awesome. I recommend you donate to the myHack project and use their install package IF you can get 10.6.8 to run on a virtual machine.

It is possible to get 10.8 started if you only have a Windows based PC, but it is much easier if you start with a working Mac.

I assume you are using Intel CPU, but if you are using AMD then don't bother it's too much trouble and you won't likely be able to update your system even if you do get it installed.

For dual boot, I STRONGLY suggest two hard drives, one formatted with multiple HFS+ partitions for your Mac install and an alternate install for when (not if, when) you break your primary install, and the other hard drive for Windows.

There are ways to do dual boot with one hard drive, but newer versions of OS X do not support installing or booting from MBR partitions, and Windows will not install to a GPT partition. Again, there are ways around both of these issues.

Again, I very much recommend getting a working install of 10.6.8, virtual machine or not, before you try newer flavors of OS X
