Will the 7870 work with my Asus Sabretooth X58 mobo?

Since the 7870 is a PCI-E 3.0 card and my mobo only has 2 PCI-E 2.0x16 slots,will any variant of the 7870 be compatible with it?

Will I need to update my BIOS? I was previously using a 580 which turned bad,so if the BIOS update would be required to run the card and since I have no spare card I may not be able to do so.
