Hello everyone. Sorry to bother you all but if I may borrow some of your time, please do read.
I was trying to install the 320.18 update for my Nvidia GT650m graphic card (from Nvidia Site because windows update failed) but it also failed, "Nvidia Installer Failed" it said. I tried again, same result. I noticed that the nvidia control panel is gone. I checked device manager and found out that my graphic card is listed as an "unknown device" under the display adapter -- but the other one (Intel HD 4000) is there. I tried again, same result. So I restarted my laptop, went to check in device manager, it is listed under display adapter as "Video Controller (VGA compatible)". Tried to update driver through device manager but then again failed. Used manufacturer's driver (304 update) from the CD, still failed. Downloaded update 320.18 from Nvidia site again, tried to update
Tried to uninstall and all its partitions with DRIVER SWEEPER program, then tried to update with 320.18, still failed with same result. Downloaded the separate download for GeForce experience, tried to install, failed and said "NVIDIA installer cannot continue, the graphics driver is not supported". im running out of ideas, ideas which I basically pick up reading from threads in forums of different websites.. can you guys please help me?

I have an ASUS N56vz
CPU: Intel Core i7-3630QM
GPU: Intel HD4000 and NVIDIA GT650m
OS: win 8 64bit

please do tell me if there are further specific info that you could probably use, I appreciate any help that you'd lend me. thank you very much in advance.

Hello buddy,

Have you tried doing a system restore to before the issue started. I have had a similar issue with a failed nvidia driver installation that seemed to prevent any further installations. Reset back to before initial install and it worked like a charm.

oh, forgot to mention that I also tried system restore but failed with an error about an anti-virus conflict, tried several times but gave up with it. However, after reading your comment, I had hope and searched the net leading to some threads about antiviruses causing problems for successful system restore, I disabled my AV (bitdefender), went to safe mode, tried system restore, reboot again to safe mode (they say it wont work if you wont reboot to safe mode so I did it), had a system restore error with anti-virus again (disappointed), reboot again to normal mode - still saddened and down- then holy son of a gun! I noticed nvidia control panel is there again, checked device manager and my gt650m is finally listed under display drivers! I didnt mind the error with the AV though since the problem is solved, so thank you very much! really appreciated the help :)
