GTX660Ti, will it be a good upgrade for me?

Hello everyone,
I am Bez, this is my first post here :)

So, this is my computer:

CPU:
INTEL CORE 2 QUAD S775 2.66GHz Q9450 + Arctic-Cooling Freezer 7 Pro

Motherboard:
ASUS P5Q PRO

Memory:
G.skill DDR2 4096MB 800MHZ PI CL4-4-4-12

GPU:
Gigabyte 4870 512mb

Case + PSU:
NZXT TEMPEST + SeaSonic M12II 500W

Hard Drive:
Western Digital WD5000AAKS 500GB SATA2 7200rpm 16MB

Operating System:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

I play on 1920x1080 resolution and none of the components were OC.

Although five years have passed since I purchased my computer,
I still manage to play on it surprisingly well.
Unfortunately, I start to feel the age.

On new games like BF3 and ArmA3, I put everything on low settings,
and I get an average of 25-30 FPS (sometimes it can be 40),
If there is lots of action on screen, there is a dramatic drop in FPS,
nevertheless I still can play reasonably well.

My question, if I will upgrade the video card, let's say to 660Ti,
plus, add another 4GB of ram, will I feel an improvement?

I know a new system would be better naturally,
but this is not an option right now (money, money), and as long as I can get
ho, let's say a constant 40FPS, and maybe even rise to medium settings,
it would be enough for me for the next year or two.

I did some research online, and it actually seems that people with a similar
computer to mine are happy with an upgrade of the GPU.
But I really want to make sure since it's not exactly the same.

Beyond that, if the upgrade is indeed an option, and you have a recommendation for another video card, or a completely different proposition, I'm open to suggestions. Just keep in mind money is an issue, and even a 660Ti is
stretching the limit as it is :(

In addition,
Does my PSU can handle the load of the 660Ti
and the addition of another 4GB ram?

And most importantly does my case can fit the 660Ti at all?

Thank you for your help!
Bez.

Solution
The 660ti is a good choice, or 7950, for 1920x1080 gaming. They both are neck 'n neck in benchmarks, but the 660ti has a much lower latency. That's why I chose the 660ti.

Since you aren't overclocking, 500W is enough power.

4GB more of RAM will be nice, just make sure to get the same. I think this should meet your needs and it'll be good for when you upgrade your mobo + CPU next year (if you do).

You have a quad core CPU so you won't bottleneck when playing BF3.

oh, I'm assuming NZXT Tempest 210...so yes the card will fit. It's a mid tower case and case has clearance for 250mm GPUs...so you're good.

well BF3 is a CPU intensive game and your CPU is about 5 years old. and im afraid your CPU might bottleneck the GPU. if you can upgrade your whole system in near future then id say go with the card and see how it performs. if you see a notable difference then you may be able to keep it for another year. if not you might want to upgrade your whole system.
EDIT: envy14tpe said it wont be bottlenecking your system so your good to go with the card. :D

First of all thank you for the quick reply, both of you :)
To your question, I am from Israel.
When you say similar RAM, all I can find in stores next to me is:
G.skill DDR2 800mhz PC2 6400 CL5
or
G.Skill DDR2 800Mhz CL 5-5-5-15 PQ
or
G.skill DDR2 800 CL4-4-4-12 - F2-6400CL4D-4GBPK
Will any of them work with what I have?
Or should I just not upgrade RAM and only the GPU?

Again,
Thank you :)

This is what I have atm
X2 G.skill DDR2 2048MB 800MHZ PI CL4-4-4-12

this is indeed very similar:
G.skill DDR2 800 CL4-4-4-12 - F2-6400CL4D-4GBPK
but mine doesn't have the F2-6400CL4D-4GBPK at the end of the name (I don't know if it matters),
And judging by the image at the online shop they don't look the same.

Ho and about the case, I don't know if it's 210 (I am sure you do ;)) but this is what I have:

Prices here in Israel of CPUs are substantially higher than in the US,
I can probably spare for a 660Ti (about 440$ here in Israel),
but a 4870 + new mobo + new CPU + new RAM will probably exceed my budget allot,
or I will have to save for quite some time, and to be honest I am anxious to get a new GPU already

Anyway if you say a new 660Ti won't bottleneck my CPU and it would give me a nice improvement
in gaming performance, I think I will go for that, until I will buy a new system (probably in two years).

There is just the RAM issue, this is what I have:
X2 G.skill DDR2 2048MB 800MHZ PI CL4-4-4-12
and this is the closest I could find in shops around my city:
G.skill DDR2 800 CL4-4-4-12 - F2-6400CL4D-4GBPK
Will it fit my system?

And btw, your help is very much appreciated envy,
thank you very much!

Yeah, but I will probably buy BF4 a year or so after release (if at all) so it's not an issue really.
And ArmA3 will keep me busy in the meantime :)
I think I decided, I will buy a 660Ti.

BUT, Judging from your comment I understand the RAM I mentioned is not compatible with my current RAM or?
Sorry for nagging about this :( but I could really use an answer, I really don't understand anything about it
and the extra RAM is important for me not just for gaming but also for 3D, photoshop etc...

It's been a while since this thread was opened, but if anyone cares,
I got this GPU today, and there is a significant improvement in gaming performance,
it seems the CPU is holding up fine. Just thought it might be of interest to some people.

Again, thank for all your help!
Bez.

I got the Gigabyte windforce, and it cost me 1200 nis (about 344 usd)
which is a good price for it, at least here.
