I've got the normal Ripjaws series memory, and that is fine, but it has a lower heatsink than the X series, it appears:

I just looked at a diagram of the gigabyte motherboard, and I would be a little concerned about whatever that thing is between the CPU socket and back panel connectors. I think it says Ultra Durable or something. It might block an NH-D14 if the cooler is horizontally oriented (you can also vertically orient it, provided your case has a vent directly above the CPU).
It takes them awhile to do clearance checks for every board, and since the z87 chipset is still relatively new, perhaps they haven't gotten to your model yet. Or maybe they have and it didn't fit.
