Hello!

I have 3 samsung syncmaster monitors (913n, 2443bw, 970p) and a sapphire 7950HD card. I can't set up all three on the 7950HD because of different resolutions, so I was thinking of adding my old PoV GF9600GT card into the mix and connecting the 913n on it. When i did that, it only discovered the Geforce card and the 913n monitor, so i'm a little out of my depth from here on. Can I even use these cards at the same time? If so, what is the necessary software to do it, etc..?

my MB is Asus p6t and i run win7 64. I would appreciate some direction on this very much.

cheers

There are a few special MB's that can run both AMD and NVidia at the same time, but most can't. I ran an AMD 4850, 3450 and MB OnBoard graphics at the same time and it worked for anything 2D, but games became problematic. It is probably best to wait until you can afford the adapter! With the adapter and 1 card, everything works well and there are many options in AMD's Vision Engine Control Center. Versions since approx 12.10 work amazingly well. You don't have to set up eyefinity, unless you want 3 screen gaming. Most options are available as soon as you plug in your monitors. You can even hot plug the monitors now without problems. I used to try hot plugging the HDMI to my 42" TV and it would instantly BSOD, now it just works.

If you can plug them all into your 7950HD you should be able to use all the monitors just not in a surround display. Just right click when you're on the desktop, hit screen resolution, and you should be able to configure each monitor from there.

Thanks for the reply. I tried the above method and get the "unable to save changes" notification.

Unless your 7950 is a Sapphire "Flex" version, you will still need (1) active adapter to run the third monitor! Accell dp to DVI adapters are about $30 on Amazon and have the best success rate. Some cheaper models are headaches for some! I have a Sapphire "Flex" and run 5 monitors with 2 active adapters. Once you have the adapter, you will be able to run any configuration you like!

I see, so I have to purchase one of those. Around here they run into the 40€ range (small country with bad margins because of the economy of scale). I would still prefer if there was an option to just plug it with the other graphic card, if that is possible, since performance wouldn't be that important.
