Hi everyone... I'm running Windows XP SP3. Everything has been working just fine for ages (4 months since my latest reformat/reinstall of Windows).

Today I clicked the icon to install the recommended Windows updates and got this error message:

Setup cannot copy the file msfeedsbs.dll.

Ensure that the location specified below is correct, or
change it and insert '(Unknown)' in the drive you
specify.

Copy files from:

c:\windows\softwaredistribution\download\75ab5f62f95188020c8b71503040da81\SP3QFE

(that's the default location with the option to browse given beside it)

Googling that specific error message returned 0 results.

Because it's been so long since I had an issue like this that needed help, I'm a bit rusty about the correct process for fixing it. Instead of trying to wade through all the software/malware sites on the first page of Google when trying to search for how to fix a dll problem or download a dll file, I wanted to get my head straight about it by checking with a knowledgeable community like this :)

Looking forward to any guidance.

Thanks!

Ed

Whenever I got an error with XP's Windows Updates, I use to stop the windows update service, delete all files within the download folder, then restart the service and download. Sometimes an update gets corrupted and just fails to install and when it tries again, it sees you have the files and just uses them rather than download a fresh copy. This still occasionally happens with Vista/7/8.

Thanks for your help das_stig. I'm not sure where the Windows Update download folder is located so I can delete the files from it. Can you point me in that direction? I appreciate it
