I have read dozens of this same post which is discerning and if I can't figure this out soon I'm just gonna get a gtx 660 or something but here is the issue... My motherboard is not recognizing the new 7870 at all, onboard works, I have uninstalled the drivers for the graphics card in the attempt to install them but it won't detect the hardward to install CCC/drivers, only the CIM is installed on my pc.

I have already attempted reseating the card and have even flashed my BIOS to the newer 2.80 version of the UEFI BIOS. I currently have 1 6-pin connector plugged into it although the card has two 6-pin connectors (I tried filling both also with the splitters that came with the card but no luck there).

lastly I have not checked my other PCI-e lane but that is because I have my previous 5870 and it worked before I tried this card, and still works in that lane.

I am looking for help to see if the issue is my PSU, the card itself, or mobo compatability (although according to what I have read so far mobo isn't the problem)

Specs:

i7 3770K
VisionTek HD 7870 GHz edition
16g mem (8g G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series (4g dims), 8g something else sorry can't remember off the top of my head)
ASROCK z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155 mobo
Earthwatts Antec 650(may be 600) PSU (link: http://www.amazon.com/Antec-EarthWatts-EA650-Power-Supply/dp/B000HEZFZO/ref=pd_sxp_f_pt)

I can confirm all of this when I get home round 5:15 so discussion is great till then.

THANKS IN ADVANCE I APPRECIATE ANY HELP!!!!!!!!!

Solution
You have to populate both PEG connectors on the gpu, otherwise it will not be recognized.

Edit: The 650 has two 6+2 connectors - use those and not the splitters.

Question, I cannot find another free 6 pin connector on my PSU so if I use one normal 6-Pin and one of the splitters will that be fine? I was assuming the other slot was for crossfire adapter...

UPDATE: I also wrote that I had both connectors filled earlier, this was before the BIOS update however.

I have seen the 6+2 cable but was simply afraid to use it (first PC I built 2 years ago upgrading now) I suppose that will work fine then? Also the bios is set to PCI(at least it was before the update I will check again but the new deal was that I could select speeds like Gen 2 and 3... would these settings help you think?)

Thanks for the input by the way I have been looking EVERYWHERE for someone to mention if both slots need filled for power on the card, because the fan spins both ways.

The connectors will be on separate lines. Your psu has two 12v rails and one connector is attached to each. They are set up as 6+2 because some gpu's require a 6 and an 8 or an 8 and an 8, or like your a 6 and a 6. If the extra two pins are not needed, just ignore that part of the connector.

worked like a charm, the instructions that came with it weren't even fro a card that had two connectors.... Wasn't sure how to do it and AMD's site says one if I recall.

THANK YOU SO MUCH lol
