My mouse jumps all over the page while I am typing. I want to download something that will disable the mouse on my Sony Vaio

Thanks for your suggestion but and no offense, it is lost on me. People have told me to install drivers so that I can then go into the Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Devices and Printers, Mouse, looking for an UltraNav tab. The I would simply uncheck the box that says Enable Touchpad, click Apply and OK buttons and I would be all set. Now you want me to uninstall Drivers. I am totally lost. What drivers would I uninstall? How many are there? Millions, one, twenty? I have no idea.

Since you are using Windows 7 (the question is in Win 7 forum), Click on Start>Control Panel (right side of Start Menu)> Device Manager.
There you can uncheck the box that says Enable Touchpad, then OK. This should be enough to disable the touchpad from sensing your palm while typing. No need for messing with drivers.

BTW, you need to use an external mouse after all that. You can't stay without any type of mouse-y input.

I followed those instructions but they did not pan out for me. I clicked on Start, Control Panel but found nothing that even remotely resembled Device Manager. I did go into Devices and Printers. I right clicked on the mouse and found Device Settings. Under that is Enable or Disable. Can I assume the Disable is exactly what I am looking for and click on it? By the way I am using an exterior mouse an have been since I purchased the laptop over a year ago. Dennis

Yes. If you already have the external rodent connected - Disable.

(I hate those things as well!)

I think my problem is solved. I went to the mouse area and clicked on disable. Then I started typing but the cursor jumped again. I went back to the mouse area and discovered the disable function was highlighted so apparently had not worked the first time. THEN I noticed the Apply and OK buttons and clicked them. So far so good.

Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions and for being patient with me while I muddled my way through this computer. I sure appreciate it.

I always take the external mouse with me so should be OK. At least if I don't take the external mouse I now know how to click on enable to get the machine mouse working again. One of my problems was when I first looked at the mouse area of the Control Panel was there was no enable/disable showing. My cousin who repairs computers for IBM suggested a driver to get enable/disable to show up. Once that was done and with the help of you folks (THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH AGAIN) I then had the option of disabling the mouse. So far now the cursor is not moving. I have also moved tom's Hardware to my favorites section if have another issue.

NO NO NO.. You need not disable your mouse pad NOR drag around an external mouse.
ALL YOU NEED is a very very cool program called "TOUCHFREEZE"
It is very small, consumes very little resources running in the background;
it detects any time you are typing, and ONLY then, it DISABLES your mousepad TEMPORARILY and within a split second it enables it again as long as you are not hitting keys on your keyboard!
I don't work for them or anything like that. I have just tried all the solutions and dragging around an external usb mouse and everything else I could imagine trying, and I LOVE THIS PROGRAM, it is THE solution to this problem you have and I USED to have!
Hope I have helped you.
Go to Google and enter "Download TouchFreeze"... it should be the first result :)
