TL;DR
bought a 670 ftw sig 2, it's not performing too impressively. I think my crap CPU is the culprit, so either help me troubleshoot this, or suggest a better mobo/CPU combination that I can order.
Obv... intel processor w/ best bang for buck and a solid mobo.
I currently have a terrible gigabyte GA-970A-D3 mobo, so you know the size i need for my case.....

THX

also... 8gb ram, win 7 sp1, 550 watt PSU.

Hello all,

I have been a reader of these forums for some time, but never joined... until now!
I have a problem and I need help from those who know more than I do. I decided to upgrade my current systems GPU to gain some needed frames in games like Metro LL, BF3, Skyrim, etc.
I'm beginning to think I should have ordered a new CPU and MOBO. My MOBO has always given me issues (this would fill another thread had I not solved them).
Basically, i think my AMD fx6100 @ 3.3 ghz is bottlenecking my performance and I'd like some opinions and recommendations for proper MOBO and CPU to match with the 670 for the best performance and least bottlenecking.

I fully maxed Heaven 4.0 and the results with the 670 were:
33.1 avg FPS
Score: 833
Min fps: 10.6
Max fps: 62.2
Ultra, tess extreme, 8xAA

Seems underwhelming, especially when compared to my previous 560 ti:
20.1 avg FPS
Score: 506
Min fps: 6.3
Max fps: 46.2

In BF3 full 64 player servers I am getting 45 avg frames at a mix of high to ultra settings, and only using 55% of the GPU. I was getting the same framerates before with my 560 ti running at a mix of medium to high. Other offline games seem to fare better... but Metro LL was running 50-60 at very high settings with the advanced physx, and motion blur turned down.

I'm at a loss. Sorry for the wall of text.

I don't think there is any bottlenecking going on... I previously owned a 670 (similar to yours), and it performed at about 60 FPS on ultra in BF3, so yours is only off by a small amount. The FPS in Metro LL seems about right to me... those are both extremely intensive games.

Its definitely your CPU bottlenecking. BF3 multiplayer is really CPU heavy. Metro on the other hand is more GPU dependent. Haswell is out so you can either get that or a 3rd gen intel since they should be going down in price.

Thanks guys. The CPU was definitely holding me back in BF3 Multiplayer. I've read that this card gets higher frames in games, such as metro, but who knows. I'm about to change out some components on my PC so best of luck to this guy. Thanks again.
