To start off, I don't know much about computers. I just bought an iBuyPower dektop computer bundle from Walmart.com. I bought a D-Link DIR-655 Xtreme N Wireless-N Gigabit Broadband Router thinking I could use that for internet access. I already have a wired router in my house (not in my room). Is it possible to have two routers with only one ISP? If not, I believe I'll need to buy a wireless USB adapter. I was looking at Netgear N900 Wireless Dual Band USB Adapter and wondering if that would be a good choice.

Yes, you will need a wireless adapter for your desktop in addition to what you have. Unless the WiFi is already there (maybe, maybe not) it has no way to converse with the WiFi.
So, the chain of stuff will go like this:
Existing modem/router -> wired connection to new D-link wireless -> WiFi adapter connected to your desktop.
But....there are a few things that need to be done to the new 'router' before you can use it.
1. Turn off DHCP. That will be handled by the original router.
2. turn off the firewall functions of the D-Link. Again, handled by the existing router.
There may be some other things, but I can't think of them at the moment.
Basically, you're using the D-Link as a WiFi access point.

1. Does the house wired router have an open lan port that could be used to directly attach your pc to?
2. Does the house router have a wireless capability? Many do.
3. Why not replace the wired house router with the Dir 655?
It has wireless capability. Then, all you would need would be a wireless network adapter on your pc.

I'm a little lost. Are you saying that I can use the new router I bought along with the other router that's existing in the house? I do have a wireless internet connection in my house, I know this because I have a laptop that picks up the signal from my existing router.

Well, then....take that new D-Link back to the store and get your money back.
Get a USB WiFi adapter for your desktop. That should connect to the existing router.
Key word - should.
But you don't need that other router.

A lan cable is always the fastest and best connection if it is available to you.
Otherwise, you will need a wireless adapter(card/usb) on your pc.
Since there is wireless signal to your house router, just add your pc to those that are authorized by the home router.
I think you can return the dir655.

If you are able to connect a lan cable to your house router, you are done.
If not, you need a wireless adapter in your pc. I might suggest that an add in card with an antenna is likely to perform better than a usb dongle.
The dir655 is a fine router; mine has been trouble free for years.
I doubt though, that there would be any value in using it to replace your current house router.

I have FiOS as well. 2 routers is 'doable' but a waste of time and money.
A switch connected to the ActionTec router will be easier and cheaper. I have ~ 12 devices connected via the standard FiOS router and a couple of $15 switches.
You do not need that other router.
