HDMI Capture Card Problem

RecentIy bought off eBay a HD72a HDMI capture card and installed it in my computer using the driver and Honestech software that was supplied. The software does run, and the HD MPEGS it generates looks beautiful, but they all suffer from a serious audio/video sync problem that makes them unusable. The source material I am recording is HDMI video that is free of HDCP protection. I am not recording game console output. The software does not seem to allow capture in any other format such as avi or h.264.

My computer is a 2.6 GHz, Q6600 quad-core machine with 8 GB of DDR3 memory. As others have noted, the driver and the software (HD DVR 2.5) appear to be modified or hacked versions of older software made by Honestech. It is not supported by them and does not appear anywhere on their website. My question is whether or not anyone has succeeded in using this HD72a card to capture HDMI video that is free from sync problems?

In the alternative, can anyone suggest affordable hardware or software that will capture in high definition HDMI without defects or lag?
Any help much much appreciated.

I am unfamiliar with the HD72a.
Do you care if the capture card is an internal card or an external box?
If an external device is fine with you I would recommend the Elgato Game Capture HD.
