I have the Corsair vengeance 8gb [CMZ8GX3M2X2133C9R] and these support up to 2133mhz speed through XMP. But the thing is after going to BIOS and setting the XMP to [Enabled] it shows up the XMP settings and when i save and exit from BIOS to restart, i get a hang and upon restart i get told there was a problem and the BIOS settings were restored to DEFAULT. The Ram reverts back to 1333mhz. Now i was under the impression XMP was rather noob friendly... Am i doing something wrong or is there something i am missing..?

Please help.

Motherboard - Msi z87-GD65
processor - i7 4770k

I am running everything stock. Currently waiting for my H100i to arrive so i can OC my 4770k. Don't want to risk it on the stock intel cooler fan :p . Really though could that be the problem?

Check the mobo specs, where it list the DRAM speeds the (OC) next to a given freq indicates a need for a CPU OC. Try it at 3.8-3.9 or so and let me know. If that doesn't cover it, being MSI it make take a couple minor voltage adjustment. MSI seldom has their BIOS set up for higher freq DRAM when they release the mobos

The funny thing is I cant even OC the CPU! i tried the OC genie and even with that i was having the same error. (I pressed the virtual OC genie button in the BIOS and pressed F10 only to be greetd with a message stating "Previous overclock settings failed, press F1 to resume set-up or press F2 to go to BIOS" :/

I have my BIOS updated to the current 1.2 version. am i missing any key drivers or is it just a Mb problem...? This might sound stupid but could this be due to the fact that i am using Win 32 Trial version o_O..?

Ditto on the BIOS, but with the release only about a week ago, (to be honest I'm afraid to look) I'd hope after IB, they would have at least a 3/4 decent BIOS on the mobos and no updates yet, but note: I mentioned earlier that MSI is noted for have having them ready at rollout ;)

I hit the OC genie virtual button on the board, Press F10 to save and exit. Upon boot-up i get an error which tells me that there was a problem with the overclock settings and they have been set to default. :/

Now i didn't touch any other setting in the BIOS. Just hit OC Genie and F10. STILL i get the error message :(

What cold be the problem..?

Why can't i OC the RAM through XMP, or OC the CPU through Overclock genie? I really don't wanna mess up on the voltage in the CPU Lulz i am a big noob in the CPU OC world! :( wouldn't wanna alter the wrong voltage and be left staring at a black screen for a long time hahahaa

I have a problem. I am now getting Debug code 55 (Early memory initialisation) and fail to get my PC booted! No signal :'(

WHAT HAPPPENED?

no.i had just selected oc genie and let it do its thing, which seemed to give an early memory initialisation error 55 on the debug LED code. Now is that a common prob or is my board messed up...?

Fairly common, where BIOS is ready for particular sticks (which happens all to often) can usually be taken care of with taking the DRAM and/or MC (memory controller) voltages up a little. If and when the BIOS is updated, you might then be able to lower those voltages

so there is nothing to worry about...? *Phew panic Over*
so basically the XMP is messed about due to the board being so new? And i must wait for a stable BIOS before i can do anything through XMP. At this moment i have to OC manually yes? CPU and Memory?

Sounds like it, this is one of the reasons (for me personally anyway) I tend to wait a couple months after a new release of a line before purchasing, give them time to get the kinks out, mobos in particular as they are often 'rushed' to market, except of course for times I can wrangle a free CPU or two and a mobo here and there....I got my 3570K pre-release and bought my Z77 I still use in part due to it's low price and features that met what I wanted for the moment, thinking I upgrade to a higher end mobo later, and never found the need, even though I've built on many of the more and most expensive ones

Ok, i finally figured out what you were talking about LOL.
So i went and enabled X.M.P profile 1, went down to DRAM voltage and checked stability at voltages from 1.5v to 1.56v with increments of 0.015v (Msi motherboard :p) and each time i was getting the same error!

I remember you were saying that there might be a possibility that i might need to OC my processor slightly so i went and OC'd to 4.6Ghz and again with the XMP enabled and voltage at 1.5v Only (Didn't alter volts that time :/ ) i was still getting the error on bootup.

Will i need to RMA the RAM..? or just go through the manual way of RAM OC-ing?

O.k I managed to fix the problem :p ( Thanks Tradesman1!)

[Problem] - the wrong XMP profile was flashed onto the RAM sticks. As opposed to the CAS timing of 9 a 7 was flashed onto the Stick which caused the failure with the XMP profile and OC genie aswell. This was fixed by a full manual OC of the RAM stick. i noticed this in the BIOS and when i went to the online retailer to check whether i had bought CL9 or CL7 , I realised the problem!

Again Thank you Tradesman1 <3

yeh, just as assurance I ran memtest.86 latest version for 2 passes :p Hopefully it's all good!

It's rather annoying though that a company like Corsair made such a failure :ouch: With XMP being a amateur friendly way to optimise RAM, you'd Think the manufacturer would know better than to flash the wrong timing :pfff: [Corsair Manufacturing Plant]

I would guess that was either the first set of the production run or maybe the last (hopefully and someone just got antsy a set to soon or a set to late in changing the setting to those for another line of sticks (let's keep fingers crossed on that otherwise no telling how many sets were screwed up)
