Hi all.

I wasn't able to find this by searching.

Anyway. I have a Synology NAS in RAID5 (hybrid) 4x WD RED. One of the drives failed the TRIM test showing "Abnormal". The only problem I can find is multi_zone_error_rate = 1. The drive seems to work fine though and the RAID can still function.

So, do I remove the drive and do a full format (In Windows) - then remove the partition - then stick it back in and do a rebuild?
Or Just give up, buy another drive, and use the old one for a non-RAID backup drive? I will rather do this than pay a lot for warranty shipping and wait 2 months because where I live

Is there some low-level format Lunix command I can do that will work better?
Any other ideas?

thanks!

You can do like you say remove the drive, format, and put it back to rebuild the raid, but I will recommend to buy the other new WD red at the same time, usually you need one extra HD on hand in case you need rebuild the raid right the way.

Ok.
I did a full format of the troubled drive in Windows. --> OK
Did a RAID rebuild. RAID rebuild a success, but showed the same TRIM error during the rebuid.
Did a FULL TRIM scan after the rebuild. No problems!
Did another full TRIM scan for good luck. No problems!
Fixed!
