having a very irritating problem with my desktop at the moment.

on startup its crashing in the ASUS splash screen UNLESS the power is cut off for more than 5 seconds by either unplugging the plug, or by switching the PSU off on its isolator switch.

The power supply is a corsair HX850, which has been plugged into a surge protection gang socket since installation (I built the PC about 4 years ago).

Ive tried the usual, flashed the BIOS, reset CMOS, plugged RAM, unplugged all usb stuff (even the front panel from the mobo) but to no avail.

Also having issues with windows not shutting down although Im presuming this is unrelated (its overdue a reformat)...

Id be grateful for any thoughts.

What does it mean crashing? Does it stuck on it? Turns itself off?
Disable splash screen in BIOS and observe at which post phase error occurs (cpu detection, ram detection, hdd detection etc). This should help you to narrow down the possibilities.

Okie dokie. Finally had a chance to do some proper checks.

With splash off, it looks like its hanging in the/at the end of CPU check. Ram check doesn't start.

I've reset CMOS so everything's running as stock. As it needs a total power down to work I can only assume its a mobo problem.

Any thoughts?

Heya, yes tested multiple configurations of ram sticks an still the same.

Think it's mobo fault as you say. Poop
