Should I use AHCI for Intel X25-M

Should I use AHCI mode in my BIOS when I install Windows? I have an X25-M and I've been using it in the other mode for years. I know AHCI is preferable for most drives, but I also heard older Intel SSDs are an exception to that. Would love to hear from anyone who knows for sure.

Damn I hope it supports TRIM... I knew about TRIM when I bought it, but it was three years ago and I can't remember whether I actually checked or just assumed it has TRIM. I've looked on Intel's site, but there's no mention of TRIM or AHCI with it.

Ah that's the one I have! Thanks, that's a relief :) I enabled AHCI it a while ago and then it took about 10 minutes for Windows to boot. Then I read recently that Windows 7 needs to be run with the SSD in the same mode it was in when Windows was installed, so maybe that's why it got so slow. Is it possible for TRIM to run without AHCI or has my performance been degrading all this time?

Well that sucks. My system is noticeably slower than when I got it but I figured I just needed a re-install of Windows (which I'll do at the weekend anyway, already backed everything up). Is the damage reversible if I use AHCI when I reinstall Windows so that TRIM then kicks in and starts tidying up the mess?

Yeah I'm using Windows 7, just not the AHCI mode. I'm sure there's a DOS prompt command to check if you have TRIM enabled. I ran it soon after I got the drive and I'm pretty sure it said it was OK. Maybe it was misreporting or something though. Would a reformat do the same job as the garbage collection or is the data mess still there under the surface?

Appreciate it but I'm actually due a reinstall anyway so it's not a problem. As long as there's absolutely no way to use TRIM without AHCI mode then the drive must be designed to use AHCI (since it supports TRIM). I think the advice I saw for not using AHCI with it probably referred to the first revision of the drive. The actual manual makes no mention of enabling AHCI in the BIOS section of the guide, but the manual probably wasn't updated for the G2 revision that supports TRIM.
