I actually have two questions with this build. But first, below is where you will find my current system specs.

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor

Motherboard: Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard

Memory: G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Video Card: PowerColor Radeon HD 7850 2GB Video Card

Power Supply: Corsair Builder 600W 80 PLUS Certified ATX12V Power Supply

Operating System:Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit)

I use this system for gaming, primarily. If I get a stonger GPU, would I need a strong PSU? I would like to be able to tune up my system a bit more than what I have it as. Faster and higher graphics would be cool if not to expensive. I would love to play Crysis 3 or Skyrim on highest settings. But, looking at my current build right now, what would you say I need to improve? Just a better GPU? PSU? CPU? etc.

All input and suggestions great appreciated! I want to take this build a step farther!

Is the 690 much better than what I have installed? Also, do I need a better motherboard? I see you said a 120GB SSD. If I get a new SSD to boot from would I have to buy another copy of my OS?

What about the AMD Radeon HD 7970? Or the AMD Radeon HD 7950 3GB GDDR5? Would either of those give me a large jump in performance? Would I need to get a better PSU to run either?

If you are planning to overclock your cpu, be sure to get an aftermarket cpu cooler (Hyper 212 EVO, Xigmatek GAIA). 600w will be fine for a single card gpu, but I would not use the builder series of Corsair. If you want to stay with corsair, use the TX or AX series. You might also want to look at the Seasonic 620-650w units.

The 7850 is pretty mediocre for gaming at this point. If you like the radeon line, look at the 7950 - or if you like Nvidia, check out the 660 or 660ti. It all depends on your budget. If you want to go up another step, look at the 7970 or 670.

what kind of increase in gaming would I see with the AMD Radeon 7970, which I believe also has 3GB DDR5? To run the 7970 would I need to upgrade my PSU? I have not had any issues with the 7850 I have installed, I just want to play higher end games with better graphics available. I will be making a choice today, so tell me, is the extra 80 bucks worth it for the 7970 over the 7950?

yes you would have to upgrade you psu but only to a 600wattt but it would not be that much and it not just memorer that determies spead (its also gddr5 not ddr5) so it will be sizable also 770 would be beter as its the same price but has better preformance

So you are saying that the

Gigabyte GTX 770 GDDR5-2GB 2xDVI/HDMI/DP OC WINDFORCE 3X Graphics Card GV-N770OC-2GD

is better than the

MSI AMD Radeon HD 7950 3GB GDDR5 DVI/HDMI/2xMini DisplayPort PCI-Express Video Card R7950 TWIN FROZR 3GD5/OC

Because the 7950 is near 100 bucks cheaper and I get the impression it is superior for some reason? Also, I already have a 600w PSU...You said I need to upgrade it to a 600w, but that is what I have?
