Hey fellas, I know this question has been asked a million times I just can seem to find the best answer. I dont want sli, I dont want multiple monitors. I just want to game at 2560x1440p at max settings on one monitor. I know buy the best is always the answer but I heard the 690 is overkill for what I want. Can a single gtx 670 signature 2 do the job? Also do I need a fancy motherboard if I dont plan on sli/crossfire.

You may need more than 2gb of vram to handle 1440p smoothly all the time. Some of the 670s have 3 or 4gb, or you might want to look at the 7xx series. I can run some games with downsampling (effectively 1440p on my 1080p tv), but generally my 670 doesn't quite have enough vram so I often stick to 1080p with AA. At least, I believe it's a lack of vram rather than gpu power.

Also, more vram may be useful after this year once PS4 and Xbox One ports start coming out, which on their respective systems can take advantage of several gb of vram.

Any recommendations on a motherboard? Like maybe get a lesser one to put more money towards a gpu that can handle 1440p well.
