I am currently running the build below, and wanted to upgrade my GPU a bit more than what I have installed. Granted, my 7850 is not bad, I just have some spare money from a bonus at work and decided I want it to go to my gaming system. I am looking to spend around $400 on the GPU, and if I need a better PSU as well that is fine. If I am required to get a better PSU (prefer to not have to) I will as they are not to expensive. Please do not include the cost of the PSU when suggesting a GPU. I am wanting to spend around $400 on the GPU, and any extra upgrades required can be bought as needed.

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor

Motherboard: Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard

Memory: G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Video Card: PowerColor Radeon HD 7850 2GB Video Card

Power Supply: Corsair Builder 600W 80 PLUS Certified ATX12V Power Supply

Operating System:Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit)

Any additional suggestions are welcome. On my previous thread I have some insight on where to proceed. Thanks to you guys I have complied this thread with additional info and updated views on what I want to do.

Summary - $400 area cost for a better GPU than what I have installed (if it is worth upgrading)

NOTES: I am fine with having to buy a better PSU or MB if needed.

A GTX770 will fit nicely here. I suggest a MSI GTX 770 gaming ( exact 400$ ) due to low noise, low temperature and core clock only 2% slower than an EVGA superclocked. Your current PSU is still sufficient. Same for your motherboard. Some people might not like the idea of putting a high-end vga on a mainstream PSU, but it'll still does the job well.

Ok guys, looks like I am down to one of these options,

AMD 7970 OR the GTX 770 - Both cost $400

There is also the 7950 for $310

I am not sure if it will help, but the types of games I play are MMO's RPG Action/Adventure. I do not play any FPS games right now, but I am not opposed to them. I just prefer games like RTS, MMO, Action based with character creation style games. I do not play any call of duty games or anything like that right now, and likely wont as they bore me to quick lol.

Above I listed in a post what kinds of games I play. I play on a 24 inch asus flat screen 1080 monitor and plan to stay that way. That said, would the 7950 be better? I want to play Skyrim on highest settings, will that allow me to?

your PSU is fine for any of the three cards you wanted. While a 7950 will work if you have the money now and plan to hold on to your currently PC for a bit or move over the GPU etc if you do upgrade the system. I would recommend going with the 7970 or 770gtx.

Now I personally would lean towards the 770gtx only because it's faster than the 7970 (not by much) however it does have 1 gig less memory and no free games.

So if you value the free games from the 7970 then I would go with that card otherwise the 770GTX.

...my thought as well. I would invest in an SSD and / or a better HD (WD Blue is OK at best), and an aftermarket CPU cooler. Overclock the FX-6300 and stick with the HD 7850. The SSD will give the machine a nice enhancement, and the GPU is still plenty powerful enough for a single monitor at 1080. After these upgrades are complete your next change would be a new machine (as this one would be past the point of return on the price-to-performance ratio).
