Pesky Boot-Freezing issue

I just built a computer and am having a most pesky freezing issue. It typically likes to freeze most when booting windows, right before it would successfully start up. But I can get into Windows, after so many attempts. Sometimes I get it on the first try. It also likes to freeze when I'm installing a program, but again, not always. It has even frozen once in the BIOS menu.

I have tried reinstalling Windows, using different sata ports, installing windows to the HDD instead of the intended OS SSD drive, unseating all the RAM, putting it in different spots, using less than all of the RAM, adjusting the RAM voltage and frequency, flashing the bios to the only
file ASUS has provided thus far (0801 to 1007), reconnecting all of the cables in the case. I'm just about out of
things to do.

At this point, my guess is that there's something defective with the southbridge, just because it
tends to freeze during some sort of read/write operation and i've ruled out each drive and the sata ports.

Specs:

Intel 4770k Haswell i7
16GB (4x4GB) G. Skill Ripjaws PC1866
ASUS Sabertooth Z87
EVGA GTX 680
Samsung 840 Series 250GB SSD
WD10EZEX 1TB HDD
Seasonic 620W
LG Blu-Ray player
ASUS PCE-AC66 Wireless Adapter
Windows 7 64bit

This is tallrocker's friend. Once it gets going it can game just fine. Doesn't really freeze during gameplay, just booting/installing. Highly unlikely it's caused by heat.

Perhaps it comes down to comparing the differences to tboth of those models rather than something about drivers.

In my case, the card itself in the system without drivers installed poses no problem. with drivers, it either freezes during driver installation, or on all subsequent reboots. both in windows 7 and 8. uninstalling the drivers and disabling the card and using the usb adapter is my temporary solution. in researching this, it appears that there are users with various Z87 chipset boards that are experiencing the same issue. so i presumed it was the drivers. or the boards maybe need a bios update? either way, this piece of hardware is not playing well with Z87 boards, apparently.

Well, the Asus PCE-AC66 is not compatible with Vista so (just a guess) if you had upgraded from a Vista Os to your currrent OS, could it be some sort of compatibility issue? I suppose if you had done a clean install, the issue would not arise however, some users don't do a clean install, they just upgrade to a leter version OS which leaves traces of Vista OS system files.

The Asus PCE-AC66 does not support WPS - Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) is a standard for easy and secure wireless network set up and connections.

WPS lets you use push buttons or PINS instead of entering a network name (SSID) and wireless security by hand.
1.Push button: The WPS button is either on the product or a clickable button on a wizard or utility screen.
2.Personal Identification Number (PIN): The PIN is either on a product label or can be viewed on a wizard or utility screen. The PIN is entered for either the router or access point, or for the wireless device that wants to join the network.

It's an aerial, you may be situated in an enclosed room in a building with 2 foot thick walls, with other interference from appliances and telecommunication devices. Keep you phone, amplifier, heater, fan etc at least 3 feet from the deivce. Try to have it as close to a window as possible, even if you need to use a usb extension cord (needs to be USB 2 (or 3.0) hi-speed cable).

Looking forward to the update. :)

I've beem suffering same issue with win7 fresh install and z87 asrock mobo. Win7 boots and then locks up and I need to reset. I discovered than when this happened I had a cd inside the optical drive. Removing the cd fixed the issue. It's weird because I don't see how a cd could cause win7 to lock up few seconds after login.
